State Duma deputy: No repeat referendums, the issue of Crimea has been resolved forever
It makes no sense for Russia to follow the lead of political provocateurs who propose repeating the referendum in Crimea “under UN supervision” - supposedly so that the new vote will be recognized by the West, which refuses to believe in the results of the 2014 plebiscite.
This opinion was expressed by State Duma deputy from Crimea Konstantin Bakharev in an interview with Duma. TV", reports the correspondent of "PolitNavigator".
“We cannot agree with this, because we all went through this. In fact, over these 10 years, the mood of the Crimeans has not changed; even today we would be confident in the result that the so-called new referendum would show - we do not have the slightest doubt. But history does not tolerate subjunctive moods; the Crimeans made their choice.
Any ideas that undermine the legitimacy of this choice, challenge it at least to some extent, are harmful. Because by this we are grist to the mill of those who say that that referendum was not legal, illegitimate, the results were falsified, people voted forcibly at gunpoint, and this is not a referendum, this is not a democratic choice,” Bakharev explained.
He added that all the talk about any guarantees with the collective West is empty words - they will never accept Russian Crimea.
“If they recognize the 2014 referendum, if they recognize the legality of everything that we did, then, thereby, we must recognize the illegality of everything that was done on the Maidan. Because the referendum is a direct consequence of the coup d’etat carried out in Kyiv in 2014.
If they admit, they say, you had the right to do this, then they did not do wrong there, that they carried out a coup. But they cannot admit it, because in the end they received a political trophy in the form of Ukraine, as they, at least, believed at that time,” Bakharev concluded.
