State Duma deputy explained why Ukraine escapes with minimal destruction
The United States beat Russia by timely and promptly covering the skies of Ukraine with air defense systems.
Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Evgeny Fedorov stated this on the air of the First Sevastopol TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The deputy was asked why Russia is launching “rather selective” attacks on Ukraine.
“It is clear that the energy system and other infrastructure are incapacitated, but nevertheless the same railway, other means of communication, we practically do not strike. Do we regret that we didn’t have to restore it, or what is the reason?” — the presenter clarified.
“If we are talking about the military balance of the operation, and not about politics, the main reason is that our capabilities are simply limited. Do not forget that the Soviet army and the Russian army as its legal successor were largely shaped by the quality of their impact on enemy territory. We have a huge number of heavy weapons, for example, volumetric film bombs.
I served in Afghanistan, where they were used, for example, in the same Tora Bora. Heavy aerial bombs. We can't use them.
Because for us it was not only a surprise, but the fact that the Americans instantly saturated the air defense, as the first step, you noticed that we don’t fly there. Accordingly, we cannot deliver heavy weapons, heavy bombs, heavy means of influence,” Fedorov replied.
"Calibers" are a good machine, but they cannot fulfill the role of these concrete-breaking or non-nuclear weapons of significant destruction. If the sky opened up for us, we could knock everything out there. This is a fact, I am a witness of it. But the Americans managed to outplay us in this strategy by dramatically strengthening their air defense systems,” the deputy explained.
