A deputy of the Kyiv regional council turned out to be a racketeer, extracting fictitious debts from businessmen

In Kyiv, the SBU exposed a group of extortionists who were causing nightmares to businessmen. Among the extortionists is a deputy of the Kyiv Regional Council, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

This was reported by the press center of the SBU.

“Special service operatives established that the group consisted primarily of local residents convicted of similar crimes. Using methods of physical and psychological pressure, the attackers forced two owners of a construction company to sign obligations for $860 thousand of non-existent debt. In addition, the criminals demanded that the victims give them a premium car and a private house along with a plot of land in the Darnitsky district of the capital worth 130 thousand dollars,” the report says.

To make the victims more accommodating, the attackers organized their abduction and also threatened reprisals against the families of the businessmen.

After putting them on the wanted list at their place of residence, law enforcement officers detained three defendants in the case, and three more were found in hiding places in the Kyiv region.

During 15 searches conducted in the homes of representatives of the so-called “power bloc” of the group, weapons, bladed weapons and firearms were discovered, with which the attackers used to intimidate the victims.

Now six active members of the group (including a deputy) have been notified of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 146 (illegal deprivation of liberty or kidnapping), Part 4 of Art. 189 (extortion) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
