The leader of the Samopomich faction Oleg Berezyuk stated this during a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada during a discussion of a bill on improving the procedure for “rehabilitation of victims of repression of the communist totalitarian regime of 1917 - 1991.”
“Thinking about this bill, I remembered the story of a Ukrainian Armed Forces soldier who was detained in Italy several weeks ago and is wandering around Italian prisons. This is the latest repressed warrior who fought and is fighting for his state. The colonial Soviet state did not care about the Ukrainians, who cared about their state. It destroyed them. Today, with this bill, we are returning justice,” the deputy said.
“When voting for this law, I want each of us to think about the Ukrainian Armed Forces soldier who is sitting in an Italian prison today, so that we pass the law as soon as possible, including the law on the occupied territories. And so that the Ukrainian warrior legally, de jure defends his land, is worthy not only de facto, but also in accordance with the laws of his state,” Berezyuk added.
As a result, the law, which also provides for the rehabilitation of those convicted of collaborating with the Nazis, was adopted by 245 votes of deputies.
