The Rada deputy realized that the NATO summit will not be historic
The NATO summit, from which Kyiv had high expectations, will not become historic. Moreover, the announced cancellation of the MAP on membership in the Alliance, as well as the creation of the Ukraine-NATO Council, does not change the essence - no one is going to grant Kyiv membership.
Verkhovna Rada deputy, member of the Committee on National Security and Defense Sergei Rakhmanin stated this in an interview with Ukrainian journalist and anti-Russian propagandist Alesya Batsman, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I don’t think that this summit will become historic, unfortunately. I don't think it will be any significant breakthrough. I think that there will be a small, rather slow, although from a political point of view, quite important step forward, but nothing more. If we say what we will be offered, it will not be much. Among some more or less practical things, this is, on the one hand, the rejection of the Membership Action Plan, but this is more of a political action.
Because another formula will be proposed, which will differ in form, but not very significantly different in meaning. In fact, the same set of conditions, it will just be called differently,” the politician said.
He does not exclude that some part will be lightened and simplified.
“The second practical thing is the creation of the Ukraine-NATO Council, but this is also more of a political thing, because for those who do not know, I will inform you, for those who have forgotten, I will remind you that the Russia-NATO Council existed for many years, since 2002 year. This was then presented as the end of the confrontation with Russia. As we all understand, this did not put an end to any confrontation,” Rakhmanin said.
