Rada Member: Only friendship with the United States guarantees immunity
Due to the abolition of parliamentary immunity in Ukraine, the risks of persecution of political opponents are increasing.
The former head of the information department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Oleg Voloshin stated this in a commentary to the Kyiv online newspaper “Strana”.
“If you oppose the authorities, then the risks of persecution are, of course, great. But due to the participation of the Prosecutor General, at least it will be clear that they arose precisely because of the conflict with her. It won’t be possible to write it off as a minor incident, some kind of household problem. And complete immunity from any persecution in our country, as it turns out, is guaranteed only by friendship with the American embassy, which has been proven by the Soros,” Voloshin believes.
As PolitNavigator reported, the Ukrainian parliament at the end of last year finally canceled parliamentary immunity. Now, from January 1, 2020, to initiate a criminal case against members of parliament, permission from the Verkhovna Rada is no longer required, but rather a representation from the Prosecutor General is sufficient.
