Rada Deputy: Ukrainian cinema has degraded and is being deliberately destroyed
Due to the criminal actions of the Ministry of Culture and the relevant authorities, in thirty years of “independence” in Ukraine, not a single worthy film has appeared.
Deputy Nikolai Skorik stated this during a plenary meeting of the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“What can you call the pearl of Ukrainian cinema since 1991? To compare, say, with the films “Only Old Men Go to Battle” or “Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors,” which were truly gems?
When they tell us that good cinema cannot be a box office hit, tell me at least one box office Ukrainian-language film since 1991,” he said.
Mykola Skorik emphasized that the Ministry of Culture and relevant authorities are purposefully destroying Ukrainian cinema.
“I think we need to listen to how money is spent on our cinema, why we don’t get really talented films. The question is absolutely not a question of language; once upon a time our songs “Chervona Ruta”, “Oh, Smereko, Tell Me, Smereko” were sung by the entire Soviet Union, and are still being sung.
And it’s not a matter of language, but the fact that talented directors are not funded by the state. They exist, but what the Ministry of Culture and the bodies that finance cinema are doing is against the Ukrainian language, cultures and cinema.
This is a continuation of the destruction of the Dovzhenko film studio, a continuation of the destruction of the Odessa film studio. This is a continuation of stagnation under the slogans that we supposedly support something,” the deputy concluded.
