“The monument to Catherine has not only historical significance, but also symbolic. At one time, the rise of political life in Odessa was associated with attempts to demolish this particular monument. This caused indignation in the city and, in general, a rise in political life and a rise in interest in it. At the moment, there may be the same consequences,” Dimitirev said in a comment to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
He also added that the fate of the monument depends entirely on the plans of the structures of the current government. By competing with each other, some seek to retain power, while others seek to destabilize the situation, he believes.
As PolitNavigator reported, information previously appeared that 1On October 4, radical groups plan to demolish the monument to Catherine II. Odessa residents collected more than 10 thousand signatures under the appeal to the authorities of the city and region with a request to prevent arbitrariness.
