Zelensky's deputy became world champion
Zhan Belenyuk brought the Ukrainian national team the first award at the World Wrestling Championships in Nur-Sultan, Kazakh, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The 28-year-old Kiev resident, who was elected as a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada on the list of the Servant of the People party, won a gold medal in the weight category up to 87 kg and became a two-time world champion in Greco-Roman wrestling, Ukrinform reports.
Belenyuk defeated the Mexican Alfonso Antonio Epez (1:16) in the 5/1 finals, defeated the Croatian Ivan Huclek (1:8) in the 7/1 finals, defeated Nikolai Stodub from Belarus (3:1) in the quarterfinals, and won in the semifinals against the representative of Germany Denis Maximilian Kudla (2:1), and in the decisive battle for “gold” he defeated Viktor Lorenc from Hungary (2:1).
This is Belenyuk’s fourth medal at the World Championships after bronze in Tashkent 2014, gold in Las Vegas 2015 and silver in Budapest 2018. The Ukrainian Greco-Roman wrestler also won silver at the 2016 Olympic Games, three golds (2014, 2016, 2019) and bronze (2012) at the European Championships, gold (2019) and silver ( 2015) European Games.
