The gathered representatives of socio-political movements and self-nominated deputies who are members of the current Supreme Council demanded changes to the DPR Election Law, which would allow all organizations that were refused to take part in the election process.
The security service did not let those gathered in, citing the presence of weapons in many of those present and the fact that the meeting had not been agreed upon. In response, those gathered decided to convene an extraordinary session of the Supreme Council and raise the issue of depriving Roman Lyagin of the powers of the head of the Central Election Commission, as well as recognizing his actions as criminal and contrary to the laws of the Donetsk Republic. However, after receiving information that Roman Lyagin was indeed on a work trip, it was decided to postpone the meeting to a later date on the same day.
Late in the evening, at 20.00, in the same place, near the DPR Central Election Commission building, an extended meeting of a group of deputies of the DPR Supreme Council and representatives of social movements with Lyagin was expected. At this meeting, people's representatives were going to discuss the issue of postponing the date of submission of documents and registration of social movements and self-nominated candidates as subjects of the electoral process and express an official protest about the refusal to register a number of socio-political movements. However, no one from the initiative group of deputies came.
The head of the Central Election Commission himself commented on this situation: “I do not understand the essence of the claims. And even this meeting will not solve anything; we will not be able to register these social movements. The deadlines were clearly specified, but for some reason they delayed until the last minute.
The most amazing thing is that our commission, I personally, made a proposal to postpone the date of registration, but the Supreme Council simply ignored it. Either they did not have time to review the document, or they lost it. As a result, the deadlines were not increased, and the preparation of documents was treated very negligently. People must understand that the law is the law, and it must be obeyed. I came specifically to this meeting just now, but as you can see, none of the protesters came. I’m on a work trip, I won’t be in town, and I don’t think there will be an opportunity for such meetings in the near future.”
After an hour-long wait, Roman Lyagin and the journalists present there were forced to disperse.
