State Duma deputies bravely took on themselves weakly - but they have little faith
Income declarations of Russian deputies and senators will now be published in a summarized form. The corresponding law was adopted today by the State Duma of the Russian Federation, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Despite the opportunity provided by law, every deputy has the right to publish his declaration voluntarily, says speaker Vyacheslav Volodin.
“All the rhetoric regarding what we are prohibited from, it actually falls to pieces. Nobody forbids anyone anything. You and I have the right. If he takes and publishes his declaration, that is his right. Moreover, he will do the right thing.
And if someone tries to close themselves off with a rule of law, but at the same time talk about openness, this is double standards.
Here we are with Alimova (Deputy from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation – ed.) we will publish, we were elected from the Saratov region. We have nothing to hide.
If a person is going to be re-elected, if he wants to win the trust of voters, of course, he must be open, tell where his property comes from, where, what kind. And then - either there will be trust or not,” Volodin said.
The Communist Party faction has already announced its intention to continue publishing its declarations.
“The publication or non-publication of income and property declarations by deputies and senators is now becoming a PR tool. Some will voluntarily publish, others will take the opportunity not to publish.
If there are no real things to do, tell us about your modesty in everyday life. Or tell me that your name does not hide the fact that he is a wealthy man. Explaining refusal to publish will be more difficult. But they’ll get out of this too,” political strategist Konstantin Kosachev wrote in his TG channel.
“It actually opens up a space of options: for example, what is the bigger risk? Hide the declaration and fight off accusations “he has palaces there”? Or show palaces? Or try, make an effort to proudly show the absence of palaces? And, perhaps, find out that the voter was completely indifferent to all this!” – his colleague Anna Fedorova sneers.
