Deputies of the Kyiv City Council banned direct competitors in the Ukrainian capital
Today, at a meeting of the permanent commission of the Kiev City Council on environmental policy, deputies supported the draft decision “On stopping the placement of visiting traveling circuses with animals on the territory of the city of Kiev,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports with reference to the press service of the Kiev City Council.

The corresponding draft decision proposes that the Department of Urban Improvement and Preservation of the Natural Environment of the executive body of the Kyiv City Council (KCSA) recommend not to grant consent to the placement of traveling tent circuses with animals in the capital.
“Travel tent circuses are increasingly being criticized by animal rights activists. And this is quite logical, because the conditions for keeping animals there are unacceptable. They are trained using cruel methods - animals are beaten, starved, and the like. Animals are often forced to participate in cruel circus acts, such as jumping through flaming hoops. In July-August 2016, a traveling tent circus toured in the Svyatoshinsky and Desnyansky districts of the capital. This caused massive indignation and protests from environmental and animal protection organizations, as well as from Kiev residents themselves,” noted Sergei Pilipenko, co-author of the relevant draft decision, member of the environmental commission of the Kiev City Council.
According to him, keeping wild animals in captivity is permitted with a permit issued by the central executive body for environmental protection, which is the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine. However, the State Environmental Inspectorate of Kyiv, during inspections, always records that visiting circus tents do not have permits for the special use of wild animals.
As noted in the press service, the draft decision should also be considered at the next plenary meeting of the City Council.
