Liberal deputies in Moscow voted for Navalny Street
Moscow municipal deputies in the Academic district of the capital voted to begin the process of possibly renaming one of the streets in honor of the liberal Alexei Navalny, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Several residents of the Academichesky District propose, taking advantage of the fact that we have two passages without a name, to propose calling one of the streets “Alexey Navalny Street.” Since it is not clear how many people support this proposal, it is proposed to study public opinion,” said deputy Elena Gilts (Communist Party of the Russian Federation).
One of the deputies objected that by naming a street in honor of a still living person, the initiators seemed to wish him death. Then a proposal arose to call the passage “Liberation of Navalny.”
The deputies believe that in this way they will take “half a step towards ensuring that the state works better.”
Someone suggested going “completely with the hype” and asking the Moscow mayor’s office to conduct a survey of all residents of the capital.
As a result, six out of eight deputies supported the idea of starting a review.
The majority in the Academic Municipal Council belongs to the Yabloko party.
