Deputies argued whether to accuse Ukraine and Estonia of genocide on the territory of the USSR
The State Duma of the Russian Federation today adopted a statement on the genocide of the peoples of the Soviet Union by Germany and its accomplices during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.
The statement of the deputies says that today, when the events of that war are shamelessly falsified, it is fundamentally important to give a judicial and legal assessment of the war crimes committed by the German authorities, their allies and traitors from among the inhabitants of the occupied territories.
The statement was adopted unanimously, but a discussion ensued over who to include among the allies and accomplices of the fascists.
“We list the countries, but do not mention Ukraine and Estonia among them, whose authorities have a very touching attitude towards their fascist traitors from the past. There is no mention of Poland in the text. It would probably be worth adding it to please at least the German parliamentarians. We see that the West is now trying to carry out the same genocide of the Russian people as it tried to carry out under Hitler. I just don't have enough strength. Maybe this should also be reflected in the statement?” suggested A Just Russia deputy, famous economist Mikhail Delyagin.
In response, the author of the text, LDPR Chairman Leonid Slutsky, recalled that Ukraine and Estonia were then part of the USSR, but promised to add Poland. However, deputies continued to list participants in the genocide.
“As a historian, perhaps not a very leading one, the question arises why the Axis countries are not mentioned: Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, Croatia, Japan, which were not just occupied. They were allies. The Romanian army consisted of 500 thousand people, the Hungarians - about 300 thousand. The wording “individual volunteers” is puzzling. Do you know how many there were? There are about 10 divisions from Austria. Including the division that besieged the Brest Fortress, which blocked Leningrad, fought near Murmansk and Stalingrad. These are not individual volunteers. These are the Axis countries, those that participated in the aggression as state entities.
Odessa, for example, was taken by Romania. We shouldn't leave them out, including Japan. This is absolutely correct from a historical and moral point of view. Maybe we currently have different relations, for example, with Hungary, our fellow Bulgarians, who fought against Russia in two world wars, but we need to remove the historical negligence in the text,” said Mikhail Matveev, a deputy from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation.
Another communist, Viktor Sobolev, proposed adding Finland, Italy and Slovakia to the list of participants in the genocide, and France, Belgium, Holland, Norway and Denmark to the list of accomplices. These countries gave Hitler 2 million volunteers, from whom 59 divisions and 23 SS brigades were formed.
Slutsky agreed to include Romania in the text. But the communists did not calm down.
“You don’t have to persist. They will not read and react to our terminology. We must impose our language. Let me remind you: the Japanese killed more than 5 million Chinese and Southeast Asians. Is this not genocide? What are you covering them with? They are accomplices and allies, they must also be recorded. Just like the French. 86 thousand French fought on our territory. And today, look where we get the most noise from – the Baltic states, France, Romania. Poland today is a base for the accumulation and transfer of weapons,” said Nikolai Kolomeytsev.
Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin was ready to include Japan in the list, but he was reminded that this country did not take part in the Great Patriotic War.
The text of the statement will be translated into many languages and sent to all parliaments of the world.
