Deputies of the Verkhovna Rada, after several attempts to pass a law on cleansing power, were still able to vote for it as a whole in the second reading.
After hints from Verkhovna Rada Speaker Alexander Turchynov that no one would leave the hall until the law was adopted, the deputies “mobilized.” The bill received 225 votes several times, but in the end the deputies were able to give 231 votes.
At the same time, before the voting, there were accusations from the Party of Regions that it was not deputies who voted, but cards. Also, some deputies complained that they did not have time to familiarize themselves with the amendments, of which there are four hundred. But the developers said that after the revision, the bill complies with the Constitution. Svoboda leader Oleg Tyagnibok also noted that the project is much softer than one might expect.
As PolitNavigator reported, today protesters outside the Verkhovna Rada building said that if the law is not passed, they will storm it.
