Rada deputies from Poroshenko fussed: “You can’t rely on the USA”
The hasty flight of the Americans from Afghanistan should make it clear to the Kyiv leadership that they cannot rely on overseas “allies” - they will have to do everything themselves.
Verkhovna Rada deputy from European Solidarity Irina Friz reported this on her Facebook page, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In this case, I want to refrain from assessing US policy, but concentrate on the main reason for the failure of the regime in Kabul - instead of building a national army with the support of the Western coalition, in fact, an imitation of such a reform took place.
The army turned out to be completely ineffective, even at the level of special forces, which in June surrendered to the Taliban without a fight at Dawlat Abadu and were killed,” she wrote.
According to Irina Friz, Ukraine should take advantage of the Afghan experience and stop relying on the United States to develop its army according to NATO standards, and begin to carry out appropriate reforms on its own.
“I am convinced that officials from the office of the president, the government and the Ministry of Defense know how, when they close their eyes, they can see hundreds of Afghans trying to cling to the plane as it takes off. This is a good incentive and a guard against mistakes. It’s better to learn from other people’s mistakes than from your own,” she concluded.
In turn, Verkhovna Rada deputy and former speaker of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Oleg Voloshin compared the American escape from Afghanistan with the organized withdrawal of Soviet troops.
“It is no coincidence that some Western commentators recall the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan as an example of a well-thought-out plan. There was no escape then, and Najibullah’s pro-Soviet regime lasted in Kabul until 1992, when, after the collapse of the USSR, Moscow stopped supplying fuel and lubricants and ammunition to Afghanistan. At the last moment, there was no fuel even in the Afghan leader’s helicopter - he was caught and hanged by the Mujahideen.
The US has been unable to build anything nearly as sustainable in Kabul. But their protege Gani had no problems with relegation. As with the removal of loot. The whole world saw another demonstration of the effectiveness of the “US anti-corruption policy,” he wrote on the social network.
