Deputies of separatist Kosovo want to join NATO under the guise of Ukrainian events
Before the start of the plenary session in the so-called “Assembly of Kosovo,” Albanian deputies staged a flash mob, taking pictures with Ukrainian flags.
Speaking during the debate, the leader of the Kosovo Liberation Army (UCK) militant party, Memli Krasniqi, called on his colleagues to appeal to NATO to accept the region into the Alliance.
Deputies unfurled banners with the inscription “We are for Ukraine.” They also honored the memory of the fallen civilians of Ukraine with a minute of silence. Today the “Kosovo parliament” is expected to discuss an appeal to the five EU countries that do not recognize Kosovo’s independence to do so.
The leader of the parliamentary faction of the ruling Self-Determination Movement party, Mimosa Kusari-Lilla, said that the adoption of this resolution will give a start to the Kosovo government regarding further sanctions and measures against Russia and Belarus.
In turn, the leader of the faction of the party of warlords of the Kosovo Liberation Army (UCK) - the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Memli Krasniqi, said that Kosovo should specify its assistance to Ukraine by creating a special fund for the government and citizens of Ukraine. He also asked the “government” to use “this impulse,” that is, the situation that developed after the start of Russia’s operation in Ukraine, and submit an application to the EU, NATO and the Council of Europe.
“The time has come for Kosovo to become an active state and take steps to realize its aspirations in those organizations and institutions that share common values with us. This is a national emergency, so we immediately call on the Kosovo government to apply for membership in the Council of Europe, where we have met the conditions and when Russia is excluded from there, to apply for candidate status for EU membership, as well as for NATO. Membership in the Partnership for Peace should be sought as a first step towards full membership,” the politician noted.
