In the early parliamentary elections, Ukrainian voters voted on autopilot, not paying attention to programs.

The deputy head of the Ukrainian Institute of Analysis and Management, Kirill Molchanov, stated this to Moskovsky Komsomolets, explaining the reasons for the massive victory in single-mandate constituencies of candidates from the presidential Servant of the People party over political heavyweights.

“Firstly, as in the case of the presidential elections, this was a protest vote. In the two months after the inauguration, public sentiment turned out to be too inert. Secondly, if you count the two rounds of presidential elections, this is already the third election for Ukrainians in 2019. People simply got tired of the electoral process and decided to vote on autopilot, not paying attention to programs and biographies. In fact, the voter voted for brands, not for hairdressers or photographers, who did nothing for their electorate,” the expert said.

“In the new Verkhovna Rada, these winners will work in exactly the same way as the Cossack Gavrilyuk worked in the previous convocation. For six months or a year they will delve into the work of parliament, pressing buttons at the command of the faction leadership. As long as Zelensky has a high rating, they will remain loyal to the Servant of the People; as soon as the rating collapses, they will switch to other political forces, predicts Molchanov. “According to Ukrainian laws, majoritarians can leave the faction without any problems, retaining their mandate.”

Let us remind you that Mikhail Gavrilyuk was a member of the so-called Cossack hundred of the Maidan. He gained fame during the confrontation between Maidan activists and law enforcement officers, when he was detained during an attack on police officers and stripped for a search. In October 2014, he became a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, winning near Kiev in single-mandate constituency No. 965 from the Popular Front party.

In the Rada, Gavrilyuk became famous for the fact that declared higher education unnecessary and said that his experience in construction was sufficient for parliament.
