Odessa, July 18 (Navigator, Artemy Glazunov) – The owners of the Odessa airport are already negotiating with the new government to keep the enterprise under their control, despite previously repeatedly heard accusations of the dubiousness of transferring the facility into private hands.

This is the opinion of Odessa politicians who commented on the fate of the airport, control of which is associated with Boris Kaufman and Alexander Granovsky.

“One thing is obvious: what happened with the Odessa airport was a gross violation of the law and went against the interests of the territorial community. The airport was almost the only utility enterprise that replenished the city budget,” notes Andrey Yusov from UDAR.

In his opinion, what happened and is happening with the airport is a “crime.”

“Thanks to corruption schemes, Odessa lost its airport, and in return did not receive any financial worthy compensation - this is a crime. And now the airport either must return to the ownership of the city, or Odessa must be compensated for the losses incurred,” Yusov is sure.

“We’ll see what it really is like in the near future. I really hope that, under public pressure, the airport will be returned,” he added.

According to Odessa City Council deputy Alexander Vasilyev, Kaufman and Granovsky have already managed to reach an agreement with both Igor Kolomoisky and Petro Poroshenko.

“It’s unlikely that anything will change fundamentally. As far as I know, a common language with the new government has already been found. Considering that the Odessa region is still “in the possession” of Kolomoisky, it is most likely that Kaufman and Granovsky will continue to carry out their activities in operating the airport,” the interlocutor noted.

“Now they need to obtain the appropriate permit in Dnepropetrovsk. That’s the whole difference,” Vasiliev summed up.

But another deputy of the Odessa City Council, Igor Dimitriev, is confident that they will try to “squeeze” the business out of Kaufman and Granovsky.

“Surely they will try to reformat the list of “investors” of the airport, but in fact, they will try to squeeze it out of Kaufman and Granovsky under some new business structure, perhaps it will be a new structure of Kolomoisky or the new Kyiv authorities, oriented towards the president. That is, not so much to return it to the ownership of the community, but to gain control in the form of another commercial structure,” the politician believes.

“Surely, this will happen with the 7th Kilometer market and with other assets in which the Family had a share.” In the field of air transportation, previously the intrigue was the confrontation between Kolomoisky, Aerosvit, and enterprises that were the property of the Yanukovych Family. But you shouldn’t think that there will be an improvement; every owner is trying to monopolize the transportation market and not allow the so-called low-cost airlines into Ukraine,” the deputy is sure.

Let us recall that, thanks to close ties with the son of President Viktor Yanukovych, Alexander, the Odessa airport was actually given the opportunity to be controlled by Odessa businessmen Boris Kaufman and Alexander Granovsky for next to nothing.
