Derussification is slowing down due to the population of the South-East - Minister of Culture of Ukraine
The Russian-speaking population of south-eastern Ukraine is preventing the authorities from carrying out total Ukrainization with fines for violating language legislation.
The former general director of the 1+1 media holding, Minister of Culture and Information Policy Alexander Tkachenko said this on air on the Lvov NTA TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Tkachenko boasted that he was one of the founders of the Ukrainization of television and advocated total broadcasting on “Mova”.
“I would like to remind you that it was I, when I worked at the channel, who initiated the introduction of quotas, and together with Mrs. Syumar and others promoted this idea. Moreover, I was a supporter, but, unfortunately, the only one among all the TV channels that proposed quotas for the Ukrainian language.
Unfortunately, as you know, this is a consensus decision... and, unfortunately, it was not possible to make such a decision at that time. Although I still remain a supporter of 100% quotas... I personally am a supporter of 100% quotas.
Unfortunately, in the situation in which we live, and in which a significant part of the population in the south and east of the country communicates in Russian, we can only gently promote Ukrainization, and not force people tomorrow with fines to communicate in Ukrainian,” argues the Russophobe .
