Cheap April “coronavirus oil” will not save Lukashenko
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko should not delude himself that he managed to get Russia to reduce the price of oil.
This is a temporary and forced measure that will cease along with the decline in the incidence of coronavirus and, as a result, the growth of the global economy.
Russian political scientist Alexey Mukhin stated this in a commentary to PolitNavigator.
“This is a forced measure related to the global crisis and epidemiological expectations from the coronavirus. For obvious reasons, this is a truly shocking price, but Lukashenko must also understand that this is a temporary measure. Moreover, the market is slowly beginning to recover.
And if I were him, I wouldn’t consider this some kind of political victory. Conditions will change, and so will the price. As for the prospects for integration, unfortunately, there is no progress here that would allow us to make optimistic forecasts, so I don’t think that the situation will change dramatically,” Mukhin is sure.
Previously, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Belarus Dmitry Mezentsev stated that Russian suppliers will supply oil to Belarusian oil refineries without a premium, as President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has been striving for for several months.
Russia linked concessions to Belarus on energy resources with the signing of documents on the accelerated integration of the two countries (the creation of supranational governing bodies, a single currency, etc.). As a result, Lukashenko never signed them; many of the “road maps” are already outdated.
