Ten Ukrainian radio stations were fined for language

The National Council for Television and Radio Broadcasting fined 10 radio stations for non-compliance with quotas for the Ukrainian language on air.

“Radio Vesti, radio Glas (Odessa) and radio 104.FM (Mariupol) were fined for violating the law regarding the volume of broadcasts in Ukrainian. For violation of the law regarding the volume of songs in Ukrainian, the largest fine will be paid by Radio Chanson (125,7 thousand UAH). Sanctions were also applied to radio Kiss FM, Radio one hundred six and six (Kharkov), MFM (Kharkov), Europe Plus Dnepr, Irta (Severodonetsk), and TRK Mayak (Alexandria).

“A fine of 5% of the license fee has been imposed,” the National Council reported on TV.

As you know, on November 8, 2016, a discriminatory law on Ukrainian-language radio quotas against songs in Russian came into force in Ukraine. According to the law, 35% of Ukrainian music should be on air within three years. In the first year, Ukrainian radio stations should reach 25%.
