Tens of thousands of people protested against the “traitor prime minister”
Right and left parties held a rally in Madrid demanding the resignation of the government headed by Pedro Sanchez, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to protesters, Sanchez allowed the economic crisis in the country, rising prices for electricity, fuel and food items. In addition, their dissatisfaction was caused by the authorities' decision to soften the wording of the charges against politicians who tried to achieve Catalan independence in 2017 and the release of imprisoned ETA (Basque separatist organization) members.
The action in Plaza Cibeles was organized by various associations supported by the center-right People's Party (PP), the far-right Voice party (Vox) and the center-left Citizens party (Ciudadanos).
According to associations supporting the protest, the actions of the Sánchez government reveal a “hidden plan for constitutional mutation” that is “consistent with representatives of totalitarian populism and separatist nationalism.” In this regard, they demanded that the government resign.
The most frequently repeated images in the demonstration are photographs of Pedro Sanchez with Pinocchio's long nose and comments such as "Treason" and "Treasonous Government." Other banners read: “Sanchez, coup leader, you are a fascist,” “Sanchez the dictator,” “I apologize for voting for a criminal,” etc.
In Spain, local, regional and national elections are due to take place this year. This could lead to a change in the country’s government, which is now following Washington’s lead and taking a tough anti-Russian position.
Как reported PolitNavigator, 50% of Spanish residents support ending the armed conflict in Ukraine at the cost of territorial concessions from Kyiv.
