Tens of thousands of Ukrainian security forces went over to the side of Russia - Prosecutor General's Office
In a couple of years, former employees of Ukrainian security forces who defected to Russia during the events of the Crimean Spring will be able to freely visit Ukraine.
Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine Gunduz Mamedov said this in an interview with the Kyiv online publication Zerkalo Nedeli, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We have thousands of suspects for crimes committed in armed conflict. In Crimea alone, at the beginning of the occupation, there were about 22 thousand law enforcement officers and 1400 people working in the prosecutor’s office. Do you know how many of them did not change their oath? A little more than a thousand law enforcement officers and 570 prosecutors! The rest stayed and began to cooperate with the occupation administration,” says the publication’s interlocutor.
He fears that all these people will escape criminal liability because the law was incorrectly applied to them.
“In a couple more years, persons who collaborated with the occupation authorities will be able to move with impunity to territory controlled by Ukraine. Because we have the so-called “Lozovoy amendment”, which limits the period of pre-trial investigation, say, for especially serious crimes (and a war crime is such) to 18 months.
