We are talking about 19 objects that were damaged as a result of a military operation by Ukrainian security forces during the ATO. Shortly before the start of this action, the theater foyer was no longer crowded: there were many spectators, but there were practically no empty seats in the hall. But while waiting for the performance, the audience was not bored: on the second floor, in front of the entrance to the stalls, there was an art exhibition, the basis of which was made up of paintings by students of one of the Donetsk art schools. The work of 15-year-old Anna Zhovner “Children of Donbass for Peace” especially stood out.

But then the third bell rang, and the audience began to take their seats. The public was in for a small surprise: literally a few seconds before the start of the action, DPR Prime Minister Alexander Zakharchenko appeared in the hall in company with the famous Russian writer Alexander Prokhanov, who arrived in Donetsk today.

The audience greeted the head of government and his guest with applause and shouts of “Novorossiya!”, but after a few seconds the lights in the hall went out and the performance began.

After a short introduction by the artists, a choreographic performance “Monument” was shown, dedicated to the tragedy of Saur-Mogila: its heroes were the militias who defended the heights, and the historical monument itself, which was practically destroyed during terrible shelling.

After this, children appeared on the stage holding white sheets of paper in their hands, on which only a few words were written: the name of the destroyed theater or museum, and the city in which it is located. A boy named Arseny addressed the audience from the stage - he is from a family of artists living in the theater today because their house was bombed. The boy was very worried, but he spoke so sincerely that his words reached the heart of everyone sitting in the hall.

Arseny said that he and his friends love music very much, love art, and asked everyone on whom it depends to help restore music and art schools, museums and theaters. Then the children went into the hall and handed their peculiar lists of destroyed objects to those sitting there. The impression of what he saw was very strong, and Alexander Zakharchenko could not resist and went on stage together with Alexander Prokhanov.

The head of government promised the children that all their requests would be fulfilled. And Prokhanov expressed admiration for the Donetsk people: “During the shelling, a shell hit one of the schools, where there was a violin and piano. And it seemed that this became a symbol of the fact that culture in Donetsk was also destroyed. But this is your fortitude and greatness: today a play is being played here, and children are demanding the revival of art. And here I finally realized that it is impossible to break your spirit, and Donbass is waiting for a true Renaissance.”

After this, the artists’ performances continued, and the grateful audience generously rewarded them with applause.
