“Dictator” Vučić explained why the police do not kill oppositionists under him
The Serbian authorities do not intend to disperse opposition rallies because, unlike the previous pro-Western government, they adhere to democratic principles.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic told reporters in Geneva, commenting on the recent provocation of the pro-Western “Union for Serbia” under the RTS TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We tolerate them not because we are weak, but because we want to show that Serbia is a democratic country where no one will be killed, like Ranko Panic in 2008, who simply wanted to express dissatisfaction with the policies of the then government,” said Vučić.
As PolitNavigator reported, on November 5, several dozen oppositionists tried to disrupt President Vucic’s speech on the RTS television channel. They tried to break through the police cordon by ramming it with a car. The participants in the attack were detained.
On July 30, 2008, police brutally beat activist Ranko Panic, who was detained at a protest rally against the arrest of Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic. He died from his injuries. Several deputies were also injured at the hands of law enforcement officers who received orders to disperse the rally.
