Kyiv, August 27 (Navigator, Yuriy Kovalchuk) – Ukraine has no allies in the conflict in Donbass, because the government is inactive, although it should have officially declared war on Russia long ago, ex-consul in Istanbul Bogdan Yaremenko said on the Zik TV channel.

“Ukraine has no allies. This is an absolutely proven fact, which is proven by 23 years of hopeless swaying from side to side, called “multi-vectorism.” It affected the “non-alignment” in our legislation, which, by the way, no one is going to revise. The lack of allies today is the result of the government's inability to fulfill the demands of the Maidan. Because the West is watching carefully - who should we enter into an alliance with? Who is the power, what achievements does it have, and who does it rely on? The President of Ukraine went to Minsk out of despair. He promised peace, and now he must move in line with his election promises, his Western partners are encouraging him to do this,” says Bogdan Yaremenko.

According to the diplomat, Ukraine will have allies after it publicly breaks off relations with Russia and declares war with the Russian Federation.

“Putin plays by his own rules and does not look for formal reasons. He could have announced the invasion in the spring, he could have done it in June, but he was not going to do it. Therefore, I think that talk of an invasion is speculation. I think that Putin will not launch a full-scale intervention because he has already calculated the consequences. You cannot bury your head in the sand, therefore, if the parliament of a neighboring state declares war on us, sending its troops into our territory, we need to break off diplomatic relations and declare martial law.

But this is not happening not because we are afraid of large-scale intervention, but because we are afraid that we will not be able to hold elections.

Indeed, martial law will not allow elections to be held, but these are things of a different order, and Putin is indifferent to all this. If we take this step, we will have allies,” says Yaremenko.
