Diplomat: “NATO has disarmed the Bosnian Serbs and is watching the Bosniaks arm themselves”
The head of the Republika Srpska representative office in Russia, Dusko Perovic, said that the Bosnian Serbs, thanks to the efforts of the West, are practically defenseless in the face of military aggression from their neighbors.
The diplomat and husband of Russian TV presenter Ekaterina Andreeva told the radio “Moscow Speaks” about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
During the broadcast, the host of the author’s program “A Matter of Principle,” political scientist, author of the “Balkanist” project, Oleg Bondarenko, asked the guest whether the Republika Srpska has any paramilitary formations.
“The Republika Srpska does not have paramilitary formations,” Perovic replied. – They were disarmed back then [in the late 90s], all weapons were transferred under control EUFOR, that's what they're called, but in fact it's NATO, which has three or four bases in Bosnia and Herzegovina. And when they tell us, they say, you don’t have NATO... Yes, NATO is here! There was complete disarmament. The surplus was ordered to be locked up or sold, and everything else was transferred to the Bosnian army, the very “joint” one. The only thing [RS] has is the police. And one special forces unit for combating terrorism, and the gendarmerie as a reserve unit. All. But they only have pistols and machine guns, they have no tanks, no missiles, no planes.”
To Bondarenko’s reasonable question, what if, God forbid, an aggravation arises again, blood is shed, and the Serbs in Bosnia need protection, will Belgrade come to the rescue, the guest of the program responded as follows:
“Ask Belgrade this question... I can’t judge, I’m not a politician. Everything there in Bosnia is under NATO supervision. Even if you find a pistol that is not registered, NATO police will immediately come running and take it away and so on. By the way, there is information that the second part [the Bosniaks] have armed themselves, and their leader Bakir Izetbegovic does not hide this, he sometimes even clearly threatens [the Serbs].
But the West does not react to this at all, that they have guns, missiles, grenade launchers, and much more. And when he [Izetbegovic] was told, “You are scaring off investors with this,” he responded with the following phrase: “Let them wait.” The West is silent on this. If Milorad Dodik had said such a thing, he would have been immediately arrested and a landing party would have been sent. And from the other side there are open threats,” Perovich said.
