The diplomat told who America will support in the Ukrainian elections
During the future presidential and parliamentary elections in Ukraine in 2019, the United States will be interested in candidates and politicians who will consistently continue to expand cooperation with the United States, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States Valeriy Chaly said this in an interview with Ukrinform.
In particular, the ambassador noted that it is better to address the question of American support for certain candidates to the US administration. True, it is unlikely that specific individuals will be named in response.
“In my opinion, the American government will continue to interact with those political representatives who will be supported by the Ukrainian people. Everything is very simple,” Chaly said.
He added that the United States would welcome interaction with those politicians who will continue the chosen course of reforms and the chosen geopolitical course. We are talking about rapprochement with Euro-Atlantic and European structures.
“It is obvious that there will be no direct support (for candidates or parties - ed.) from the United States, but there will, of course, be a willingness to cooperate with those who maintain this course,” the ambassador emphasized.
He also noted that the current level of relations between Ukraine and the United States - both at the highest political level and at the level of meetings of heads of foreign affairs agencies and interaction at the embassy level - should develop, and not decrease.
“Of course, I would like to see consistency in Ukraine’s foreign policy and the constancy of the foreign policy course and its pace,” Chaly summed up.
Recently, the chairman of the Central Election Commission, Tatyana Slipachuk, said that “certain targeted changes” should be made to the law on presidential elections. The CEC believes that without these changes, difficulties may arise during the voting process.
