The director of a Ukrainian defense plant was caught embezzling 1 million hryvnia
The military prosecutor's office of the Sumy garrison informed the head of one of the Ukroboronprom enterprises of suspicion of embezzlement of almost 1 million UAH from the state budget, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was reported by the press service of the military prosecutor's office of the Central region of Ukraine.
“Suspicion was reported to the director of the State Enterprise “State Scientific Research Institute of Chemical Products”, which is part of the State Corporation “Ukroboronprom”, and the director of a private company of committing a criminal offense under Part 4 of Art. 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (misappropriation, embezzlement of property or taking possession of it through abuse of official position),” the message says.
In February 2019, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the State Research Institute of Chemical Products entered into an agreement for the supply of 600 units of military weapons worth more than 12 million hryvnia.
“After this, the director of the state-owned enterprise entered into an agreement with the management of a private company, which could not manufacture and supply the necessary weapons. In August, law enforcement officers conducted 25 searches at enterprises and military missions, during which necessary documentation, rough notes, etc. were seized,” the report says.
It was established that during 2019 the director of the state-owned enterprise embezzled and officials of the LLC embezzled budget funds in the amount of UAH 917, intended for the manufacture of weapons for military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“Further investigative (search) actions are now ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the crime and other persons involved in its commission. The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of five to eight years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years,” the statement says.
Previously, Ukroboronprom initiated a series of internal investigations regarding the latest events in the concern after information appeared on September 3 about the signing of an order by the ex-general director to change the charter of the Ukrspetsexport State Concern.
