The director of the "New World" withdrew from the elections in Crimea - to save business?
Simferopol, August 26 (Navigator, Kirill Boyarin) – Candidate for deputy of the State Council of Crimea, number two on the republican list of the Rodina party, Yanina Pavlenko, announced the withdrawal of her candidacy from the election race. The message released by Pavlenko said that the reason for this decision was internal contradictions in the party and the dominance of “foreign” political strategists.

“I don’t like the course towards cheap populism and sweeping criticism of Crimean realities, imposed by visiting political strategists who now run the Crimean headquarters. All these people, immediately after voting day, will take their considerable fees, leave Crimea and never come here again. And we, Crimeans, live here and look into each other’s eyes,” said Yanina Pavlenko.
However, according to Crimean political scientist Vladimir Egorov, Pavlenko’s decision is most likely dictated by the desire to maintain her position - she is the director of the state enterprise “New World Champagne Wine Factory”.
“The Rodina party was faced with administrative resources, through the non-registration of candidates, as was the case with Boyarchuk, through the removal of a candidate, as was the case with Zubkov. Realizing that you can’t trample against force, and there is real force through self-defense, the FSB and the police, she made such a decision. Moreover, Yanina Pavlenko has never been in the opposition, she was a candidate of pro-government parties, and is the director of a state plant. It costs nothing to put pressure on her. With the first difficulty that appeared in front of her, she gave up her position. I think that she simply weighed it and realized that her business related to the “New World” was more important to her than a political career, which would lead to no one knows where. This is the main weak point of people who go from business to politics,” the political scientist told Navigator.
Another Crimean expert Dmitry Omelchuk agrees with him. According to him, Pavlenko’s excuses do not look plausible.
“I think that the argument that was made public on behalf of Pavlenko shows that these are simply methods of eliminating competitors, and we are not talking about any purity of the party ranks. How can we even talk about visiting political strategists when all normal people use their services? And whether they are visiting people or not... In Crimea, unfortunately, there are not so many people who understand this topic, and the fashion for visiting people has always existed. Even during the times of Ukraine, it was profitable and interesting to attract Russians... And this means internal squabbles and the elimination of competitors,” added Dmitry Omelchuk in a conversation with Navigator.
