Sabotage or negligence? A military research institute burned down in Russia
In Tver, in the building of Research Institute-2 of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation on Afanasy Nikitin Street, a major fire occurred.
According to the local resource “Tverigrad”, the fire began today at 11 o’clock in the afternoon on the second floor; due to the wooden structures of the building, the flame quickly spread to neighboring rooms, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
About 15 fire engines from several parts of the city have already been involved in extinguishing the fire, and firefighting aircraft have also been involved.
At the moment, one person died as a result of the fire and 16 were injured.
Videos have been published on social networks of research institute workers trying to escape by jumping out of windows.
Due to the fire, the entire city was plunged into smoke, the embankment and the central part of the city were blocked.
Local residents on social networks began to suspect that the arson at a research institute related to the Ministry of Defense was an act of sabotage on the part of Ukrainian radicals.
“Judging by how quickly the building burned down, it was beneficial for someone, or the fire services in the city are at zero level,” writes Sergei Mirny.
“The cruiser Moscow also burned down... Draw your own conclusions,” notes a user with the pseudonym “Expert.”
Comments from Ukrainian representatives also speak in favor of the sabotage trail.
“Suddenly, NII-2 in Tver, one of the leading Russian research institutes engaged in the development of air defense systems, caught fire,” Ukrainian propagandist Andrei Tsaplienko writes on his blog.
The 2nd Central Research Institute of the Ministry of Defense in Tver develops navigation devices, control systems, guidance and orientation of ground-, air- and space-based vehicles. Since 2004, this research institute has been a research base on the issues of the unified air defense system of the CIS countries.
