Sabotage at SP-2 will only fuel mass protests in Germany - Bundestag deputy
If the German government, taking into account the special economic situation of the country, launched Nord Stream 2 even temporarily, then the Germans would see who is to blame for rising prices and declining living standards.
Waldemar Gerdt, a member of the German Bundestag Committee on International Affairs from the Alternative for Germany party, stated this on air on the Russia-1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
TV presenter Olga Skabeeva asked whether rallies with Russian flags are really taking place in the part of Germany where the exit point of Nord Stream 2 is located.
“That is, one thing is somehow connected with the other, and people, first of all, demand the launch of Nord Stream 2. What is going on in this context? Can you somehow comment on this sabotage (the simultaneous destruction of three lines of the gas pipeline - ed.)? We understand perfectly well that it will no longer be possible to launch it,” – Skabeeva clarified.
“This is really a measure that shows that the desire to launch Nord Stream became more and more real, with more and more protesters. There were requests from both politicians and myself to the Bundestag - why don’t we, having determined the realities of today - this is a special situation, and as a result of this special situation, make a special decision, let’s give it a temporary start.
It was important for me that people heard this message, that the problems that are created in our country today are problems created artificially by our political establishment. If we decide to launch even temporarily, and people see prices drop, it will no longer be possible to move away from this direction. So, to prevent this from happening, the following decision was made: if the dismantling and nationalization of the pipe goes beyond the entire framework of international law, it is robbery. Although Russia is no stranger to this. But this case completely jeopardizes the German economy.
And this is what I have always said - put the destruction of the German economy at the forefront, then logically everything will be clear what is happening. If we remove this, then there is no logic in all the decisions of our government. It is very important for someone to collapse the leading economy of the EU in order to plunge this territory into chaos,” replied Gerdt.
“Who is this someone, let’s say it quietly – Washington. How massive are these strikes? – asked the presenter.
“The movement is gaining momentum very strongly in all respects. People gather on Monday. On the XNUMXth we are now all leaving for Berlin, we expect that there will be at least two million people in Berlin now, if not more.
This movement can no longer be stopped, it includes left and right parties, it includes, simply, non-party popular movements, they are now being joined by those who criticized us very much, now they understand that our predictions that we said are coming true. We must now rise shoulder to shoulder to create a precedent for the resignation of the government. I think this government will not live to see the end of its term, that’s for sure. They were made scapegoats,” the German politician concluded.
