For Crimean farmers, water from the North Crimean Canal will be free
Water from the North Crimean Canal for irrigation of agricultural land will be provided free of charge this year.
This was announced by the head of Crimea Sergei Aksenov, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In order to support Crimean farmers, today I decided that during 2022, water from the North Crimean Canal for reclamation will be supplied to Crimean agricultural producers without payment,” he said. “This is a measure of support for Crimeans in order to maintain and stabilize prices for food products.”
According to the State Water Resources Committee, agricultural producers submitted 642 applications to receive water from the canal. At the same time, the owners of 92 storage ponds do not need to supply Dnieper water this year - it is sufficient from surface sources. Previously, the State Water Committee did not name the price for the supply of water to the fields, since the administration at the Kakhovka hydroelectric complex was just being formed and there was no one to sign an agreement with.
However, the deputy chairman of the committee, Albert Kangiev, assured that the cost will be affordable for farmers and will not lead to a significant increase in the price of products. However, powerful pumps are used to pump water, consuming 1,6 MW of electricity each.
For their part, Crimean agricultural producers feared that, due to water costs, their products would be more expensive than Kherson products, which had already begun to be supplied to the region.
