They want to introduce huge fines for IT giants that ignore Russian laws
The Russian parliament must develop and pass a number of bills that will not only attract the largest IT companies to the Russian Federation, but also fully protect the national interests of Russia and its citizens.
Representative of the Russian Lawyers Association Alexander Zhuravlev stated this during a meeting of the Federation Council Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State Building, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Currently in Russia there is no necessary legislation to protect the privacy of citizens, so that IT companies are in equally applicable conditions and prevent the commission of other offenses.
And it is necessary to make changes to the legislation that would encourage IT companies that currently do not have a representative office in Russia to open such representative offices,” Zhuravlev said.
He noted that it is necessary to take advantage of the experience of other countries and create an effective mechanism for regulating the activities of IT companies, which continue to ignore Russian legislation, in particular: sensitive fines, a ban on updating and hosting applications, and much more.
In turn, member of the Federation Council Viktor Smirnov emphasized that prohibitive measures exist in Russian legislation, but they do not bring the desired result.
“There is a set of prohibitive measures, but these measures did not lead to achieving the desired result, because everyone against whom they are directed has the opportunity to carefully circumvent them.
Accordingly, I believe that the general task is to create such legislation, perhaps simplifying it somewhere, which will effectively protect the national interests of Russia and suppress those acts that are defined as offenses in the legislation,” Smirnov added.
