For Kyiv, anti-Russian five minutes of hatred turn into “five minutes of energy crisis”
By provoking a severance of remaining economic ties with Russia, Ukraine could plunge into a large-scale energy crisis.
Izvestia writes about this, noting that in the propaganda frenzy in Kyiv they forget that Russia is still one of Ukraine’s main trading partners both in imports to the Russian Federation and in exports from it.
“This means that it is logical to assume that exports will drop to the minimums already reached in 2016 (only $3,6 billion), or even lower. And Poroshenko’s election “tricks” will cost Ukrainian business $2–3 billion in lost export revenue from Russia,” the publication writes.
At the same time, it is clarified that Russia for Ukraine today, despite all the statements from Kyiv about independence and “diversification,” is a critical supplier of coal (67% of imports) and an important supplier of petroleum products (30–35% of imports).
“And a logical response to the pre-election “five minutes of hatred” could be a “five minutes of energy crisis.” Moreover, having officially torn up the “Great Treaty” in the parliament, Ukraine itself is exposing itself to retaliatory actions,” the newspaper notes.
The authors believe that Moscow does not even have to revise the entire set of documents, which after the termination of the treaty will be in question, but rather simply show in what regime Kyiv will live in the event of an escalation of the situation.
“Let’s say Ukraine imports 90% of diesel fuel. What will military equipment drive and the remaining naval ships sail on if imports are suspended for at least a month or two? What about the technology - all public transport and ordinary drivers will stop (diesel fuel accounts for about 40% of the fuel market). Without Russian coal, it will be necessary not only to shut down part of the thermal power industry (this means rolling blackouts during peak hours, especially in megacities), but also part of the metallurgy industry. That is, export revenue will decline even more,” the publication summarizes.
As PolitNavigator reported, Kyiv experts fear that Russia may collapse at once traffic in Ukraine and ruin agriculture.
