It won’t be difficult for China to buy up Ukrainian lands – Kiev expert
The Ukrainian government is unlikely to implement the law on the sale of agricultural land, taking into account the interests of ordinary villagers. Thus, a repetition of the situation with mass robbery of the population in the 90s is possible.
Kiev international affairs expert Denis Kiryukhin stated this on the NewsOne TV channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Our society remembers the privatization of industrial enterprises in the 90s, and that it actually ended in a mass robbery of people, when predatory market sharks seized the most lucrative enterprises and many became millionaires, billionaires, now we see them in the Verkhovna Rada, including at the highest government positions.
Do we have any obstacles to prevent this story from repeating itself with the land market? Unfortunately, it seems to me that it’s not particularly good.
To prevent this from happening again, we must have an honest system of courts, when the judicial system must work effectively, be uncontrolled by the authorities, non-corrupt, and so on.
Do we have such a system? Even at the level of the Ukrainian leadership, which constantly raises the issue of judicial reform, thereby admits that we do not yet have an effective judicial system,” Kiryukhin worries.
At the same time, according to the expert, Ukrainian land is a tasty morsel for foreign corporations, especially Chinese ones.
“Interest in Ukrainian land at the international level is very high. We see many signals that international investors, starting with China, which is one of the most powerful importers of food in the world, would be interested in investing, buying up Ukrainian lands in order to produce agricultural products for their own consumption,” Kiryukhin concluded.
Let us recall that earlier financial analyst Alexey Kushch also stated that Western influence groups are lobbying for such reforms in Ukraine that will allow you to buy Ukrainian assets on the cheap.
