Recently, Western governments have intensified their efforts aimed at reformatting the public consciousness of the residents of Donbass with the goal of their mental, cultural, spiritual and economic separation from Russia.

About this in the material published by the portal Ukraine.ru, writes political observer Vladimir Kornilov, who noted that the US Agency for International Development (USAID), which reports to the head of the State Department, has taken charge of the Donbass.

Since the end of last year, this structure has been officially distributing advertisements for the recruitment of specialists at various levels for the expensive Donbas Activity project. The project is planned to be launched from mid-2018 for a period of up to five years. They are going to place employees in Kramatorsk, Severodonetsk and Mariupol.

Recently, the author points out, USAID posted a detailed description of the upcoming project, in which it directly states that it is acting in this case on behalf of the US government.

“The American structure, specializing in interference in the internal affairs of other countries, in setting the objectives of the project directly indicates that the population of Donbass (on both sides of the front line) “gravitates towards Russia”, and therefore is “most skeptical about the reform process” , spotted by Americans in Ukraine. And USAID sees this as a serious problem, writes Kornilov. – With the goal of “unifying the country,” the agency wants to change the mood of the region’s residents. As you understand, with the aim of eliminating “pro-Russian sentiments” in the region.

And for this, USAID sets specific ideological goals. For example, one of them: confronting the “divisive myths of nationalism.” Americans also consider the fact that the population of Donbass – oh, horror! — to a lesser extent than the rest of Ukraine, “blames Russia for the conflict.”

The Americans plan to correct this situation by involving local media in the project, which should promote a “positive narrative for the development of Ukraine.”

In addition, the developers of the document included “nostalgia for the USSR” as one of the main problems of Donbass, to eliminate which it is proposed to hold constant meetings and discussions between representatives of different generations - young people and “nostalgic” old people.

Also, a significant part of the project should be focused on the economic separation of Donbass from Russia, which is presented under the guise of “greater integration into the rest of Ukraine” and “less dependence on Russia.”

“One of the tools for such transformation should be, according to the USAID document, greater involvement of representatives of sexual minorities in “local governments,” the publication notes. – Apparently, this should dramatically improve the economic and political situation in the region.

As a result, the authors of the project aim to win over the category of politically undecided residents of Donbass (24% of the population is classified as such) to the “light side of the force.” In addition, the goal is to introduce doubts into the ranks of at least a small part of the majority of the population who are pro-Russian (50% of them are counted in the region). Judging by the graphics attached to the contract, the Americans do not hope to make these people pro-European; their task is to develop indifference in this category. The problem in this regard, USAID sees, is that this category of the population depends on the Russian media.”

USAID indicates that the total cost of this project is between $50 and $100 million.

“We emphasize that the authors of the project constantly emphasize that its main goal is the mental and economic separation of Donbass from Russia. Imagine for a moment if Russia suddenly officially allocates budget funds for the purpose of economically separating Canada or Mexico from the United States - oh, what will happen! But the Americans, without much hesitation, declare such approaches,” Kornilov sums up.
