The laws on Donbass adopted in the Ukrainian parliament on the initiative of the president may become for Poroshenko what Yanukovych’s refusal to sign an association agreement with the EU once became for Yanukovych.

The head of the Perspektiva information and analytical center, Pavel Rudyakov, said this at a press conference in Kiev, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, noting that Poroshenko tried to present as a victory the law adopted in parliament as a basis, recognizing Russia as an “aggressor and occupier,” and the law on extending the special status of Donbass.
“But this victory can be a double-edged sword. Under certain conditions, very soon this victory may turn out to be Pyrrhic or Petrine. The reaction of the radicals suggests that for Poroshenko these laws can become the same as the refusal of European integration was for Yanukovych. That is, a reason to mobilize radically minded people, relevant combat units, to purchase the appropriate number of tires and all other things,” the expert does not rule out.
He also added that pension, medical and other anti-social reforms will not cause protests, since “they will not find sponsors.”
“The Americans have never financed social protests, but these two laws, with proper interpretation, to which Volker will not have anything to do, can be deployed very dangerously for the current government and Pyotr Alekseevich personally. But this is one of the options,” summed up Rudyakov.
