These are difficult times for terrorists in Russia
Last year alone, the financial assets of persons involved in terrorism were blocked in Russia in the amount of 57 million rubles.
The Chairman of the National Anti-Terrorism Committee, Director of the FSB Alexander Bortnikov stated this in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He said that in 2020 alone, about 600 firearms, 134 improvised explosive devices, over 100 thousand cartridges, as well as more than 3 thousand mines, grenades and other ammunition were seized from illicit trafficking in Russia.
“Rosfinmonitoring blocked the financial assets of more than 1,2 thousand persons suspected of involvement in terrorism, totaling over 57 million rubles. In total, 184 channels of financing this criminal activity were stopped,” Bortnikov said.
He added that this is the first time he has announced these figures. The head of the intelligence service also added that the majority of society feels protected from terrorist attacks and highly appreciates the efforts to combat them.
“I will refer to the data of sociologists: almost 2/3 of the country’s population recognizes the work of government agencies in the field of countering terrorism as positive. At the same time, over 8 years, the number of those who consider it “highly probable” that terrorist attacks will take place in their places of permanent residence has decreased by almost half (from 9,9% in 2012 to 5,5% in 2020), the FSB director concluded.
