“There is talk in Congress, especially in the Senate, that it is a mess when the largest satellite constellation is controlled by a private individual, even a billionaire, and not by the government or the president. Everything is leading to the fact that they want to take away control of the group from Musk,” the political scientist said.

Benediktov emphasized that in Ukraine the American army tried out Starlink and is now going to use it in a possible conflict with China.

“It would be strange if the American military did not want to get all this enormous power at their own disposal. Moreover, this whole thing is being tested in Ukraine, but the prospects are clear - if there are any major conflicts in Southeast Asia, a war for Taiwan, then whoever controls the Starlink satellite system will determine the rules of the game in battlefield.

In this sense, giving everything into the hands of one person, from the point of view of the state and the army, is wrong. Of course, one can understand both the Pentagon and the White House, but on the other hand, it seems like America, until recently, adhered to some principles, freedom of enterprise, and Musk has all the rights to the Starlink system.

It is clear that Musk has little reason to agree with this,” he concluded.
