For Zelensky, his own crown turned out to be more important than human lives
President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky, if he really wants peace in Donbass, should agree to direct negotiations with the LDPR.
Historian Maxim Artemyev writes about this, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports, in Nezavisimaya Gazeta.
“Let’s say the Ukrainian government is right, and the LPR-DPR are Russian puppets that don’t decide anything. But Moscow has been saying in plain text for seven years now: “conduct negotiations with Donetsk and Lugansk (and through them we will voice our theses).” And if the achievement is important to President Zelensky, stopping the almost daily death of Ukrainian citizens on both sides in the Donbass, he would have to humble his pride and go for it - for the sake of saving lives.
But no, in the name of “purity of principles” Kyiv refuses to stop the bloodshed. And this despite the fact that at the very beginning of his reign, Zelensky said that his crown would not fall off if he called Vladimir Putin first. This means that he still puts his crown above human lives,” the author believes.
He recalls that the Americans in Vietnam for several years stubbornly refused to bring the Viet Cong to the negotiating table, calling it a puppet of Hanoi, but after their manpower losses approached 50 thousand, they had to negotiate directly.
The historian also draws attention to the example of France, Charles De Gaulle made a difficult decision to negotiate with the Algerian National Liberation Front, who were called terrorists in Paris and with whom contacts were resolutely refused.
“Therefore, the key question in modern Ukraine is whether Vladimir Zelensky can show such courage and foresight. Yes, De Gaulle risked a lot, he survived both attempts on his life and armed rebellions by representatives of the Secret Armed Organization (OAS). But he did not care about his own PR, but about the fate of the country, about saving lives. This is the true greatness of a statesman,” Artemyev sums up.
