Dnepropetrovsk mayor Filatov, who promised to hang Crimeans, was overtaken by a boomerang
The mayor of Dnepropetrovsk, Boris Filatov, who gained fame in 2014 thanks to his proposal to promise Crimeans anything to disrupt the referendum and “hang them later,” complained about being spied on.
“I returned home from work. Today, for half a day, cars were parked near the house... And strange people were walking around. I'm not paranoid, hysterical or nervous. And I'm not even Jewish. But I have a heightened sense of danger and there are hundreds of good people behind me. There were also three attempts on my life by separatists and personal threats from the late Zakharchenko. Therefore, I have only two versions: either a provocation on the part of “law enforcement officers,” or the preparation of an assassination attempt,” Filatov wrote on his Facebook page, demanding the provision of personal security from the state.
Ukrainian political scientist Andrei Zolotarev reminded PolitNavigator that Filatov, who was previously considered a representative of the team of oligarch Igor Kolomoisky, has long beaten pots with him.
“Many mistakenly considered Boris Filatov and Gennady Korban to be Kolomoisky’s team. This is wrong. They were, let’s say, under contract with Igor Valerievich, engaged in a hostile takeover of assets of interest to the oligarch. Since such cooperation is temporary, sooner or later their interests intersected, came into conflict, and they separated, like ships at sea. Today some kind of communication is maintained, but these relations have long been no longer warm,” Zolotarev noted.
In his opinion, Filatov is being subjected to “a nightmare” because he got his hands on the city budget. “In Dnepr there is a nominal mayor, Boris Filatov, a shocking blogger, sharp-tongued, such a cardboard fool, and a real mayor – Gennady Korban. Considering that the 14 billion Dnepropetrovsk budget is a tasty morsel, and these guys are actively dipping their hands in honey, they have every reason to fear for their lives. This is not because of principles, high ideals, but simply because of money,” the expert believes.
Political scientist Sergei Belashko sarcastically comments on Filatov’s appeal to Kyiv and demands for state security. “Lutsenko and Avakov can also promise a lot... And then they will hang,” the political scientist noted.
