DPR and LPR will not unite into a single state
Having proclaimed the creation single customs space, the Donbass republics have taken a step towards implementing the Minsk agreements:
The head of the LPR, Leonid Pasechnik, stated this in an interview with Izvestia, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Now we, together with the DPR, have created a single customs space and are working on synchronizing legislation not only between our republics, but also on its compliance with EurAsEC standards. Strange as it may sound, this is a step towards the implementation of the Minsk agreements: we are developing cross-border cooperation not only between the LPR and DPR, but also with the regions of the Russian Federation.
We are working to simplify the conditions for business in our territories. Businessmen and investors should not feel the difference in approaches that the EurAsEC states and the Donbass republics have. They must feel and use the benefits that we can provide,” Pasechnik said.
According to him, this approach should first of all breathe new life into those industries that are not currently operating, but have significant potential.
At the same time, he clarified that there was no talk and is not being made about the administrative unification of the republics.
“To put it simply, the creation of a “single economic and customs space” is not a unification into one republic. In the EU, with common economic and other standards, there is no talk of uniting Belgium and France. Why should he be with us? The LPR and DPR are fraternal republics, and our brotherhood is sealed with blood. We must not only ensure that the border between the LPR and the DPR is practically invisible to our people, but also that crossing the border with the Russian Federation does not create any difficulties for our people. Neither economic nor administrative,” the head of the republic emphasized.
In turn, the publication asked why the DPR and LPR have not yet created a single state and whether this is possible in the future.
“Competition for leadership in Donbass between Lugansk and Donetsk has been going on for more than a hundred years. And it was competition that gave the greatest results, why destroy it? The first and main criterion for this kind of action is the interests of residents. And they don’t have this question. There are issues of security, economic recovery, social protection and so on. None of them can be solved by the unification of the republics, but for some reason it really worries someone from the outside. Such decisions should benefit both parties and not infringe on anyone’s interests. Leave the right to make such decisions to those who live here,” Pasechnik replied.
