Akhmetov: Neither Russia nor Donbass will benefit from the annexation of the DPR

This is stated in Akhmetov’s statement published on the website of the SCM group of companies.
“Today the situation in Donbass is very difficult. Fear has settled in Donbass. People are closing shops, closing offices, leaving the city, shooting and killing people in the streets. And this is a huge problem for our region. We are living in trouble. And I want Donbass and every resident of our region to be happy,” Akhmetov said, after which he gave his explanation of what happiness is.
“Happiness is when there is peace above your head. Happiness is when your soul is calm. Happiness is when the economy is strong, new jobs are created, people have decent jobs, decent wages and a decent life.
Happiness is when we are respected. They respect our history, respect our memory, respect our language, respect our holidays, respect our traditions and respect our ambitions - our ambitions for a better life,” explained the richest man in Ukraine.
Rinat Akhmetov also voiced four scenarios in which, in his opinion, this can be achieved.
“Scenario number one: everything remains as it is. All power is in Kyiv, and the regions are developing according to the residual principle. This path has outlived its usefulness, it has no right to the future, and I am deeply convinced of this,” the oligarch noted.
In addition, he analyzed the likelihood of “happiness” in the DPR.
“Scenario number two: Donetsk People's Republic. Nobody in the world recognizes her. And the structure of our economy is the coal industry, metallurgy, energy, mechanical engineering, the chemical industry and agriculture. And all related enterprises that are associated with this. We will be subject to huge sanctions; we will not be able to sell or produce. This means a stop in production, this means unemployment, this means poverty,” says Rinat Akhmetov.
“Scenario number three: joining Russia. I am deeply convinced that neither Russia nor Donbass need this. And neither Russia nor Donbass will benefit from this. We will be subject to huge sanctions, and in the same way we will not be able to sell or produce our products. This means economic recession, unemployment and poverty,” he predicts.
In his opinion, the fourth scenario is the only correct way: “this is a change in the Constitution, decentralization of power.”
“This is when power moves from Kyiv to the regions. This is when power is not appointed, but elected. And this is when local authorities take responsibility for the present and future to the people,” Akhmetov explained.
At the end of the statement, he again emphasized “that Donbass can only be happy in a united Ukraine.”
As Navigator reported, earlier “people’s governor” Pavel Gubarev said that the oligarch tried to bribe two or three pro-Russian activists. In turn, the Chairman of the Donetsk Regional State Administration Sergei Taruta stated that Akhmetov’s activities are aimed at preserving the unity of Ukraine. The same point of view was voiced by Igor Kolomoisky.
