DPR will respond harshly to Ukrainian shelling under the Christmas tree
For the first time since the beginning of the conflict in Donbass, its participants may end the year without signing a holiday truce.
This opinion was expressed by the head of the Institute of Peacemaking Initiatives and Conflict Studies, Denis Denisov, in a commentary to Moskovsky Komsomolets.
He does not believe that today the shooting in Donbass has become particularly fierce, noting that “it feels like the aggression corresponds to the level of the last two years.”
“So far, no agreements on a truce for the New Year holidays have been signed between Kiev, the DPR and the LPR, but perhaps something else will appear. At the same time, for the first time since the beginning of the war, Donbass may go on vacation without an agreement on at least a temporary ceasefire. It is impossible to say more specifically, since at the negotiations in Paris Zelensky’s team directly stated that they could not control the situation on the contact line. In this regard, they refused to sign at least a protocol of intent to stop shelling,” the expert said.
According to him, the situation developed similarly at the negotiations in Minsk.
“The likelihood that the New Year holidays will be overshadowed by shelling remains very high. And in general, a sustainable truce will not be achieved until people who are capable of taking control of their armed forces and the country as a whole come to power in Kyiv. Naturally, the DPR will answer. To tolerate shelling - such an attitude does not exist and cannot exist. No one will sit back while they are ironed with heavy artillery. The answer will be adequate,” Denisov concluded.
As PolitNavigator reported, last Saturday near Donetsk a fierce battle ensued using heavy artillery.
