According to the prosecutor's office, by the end of August this year it is planned to complete a judicial commission military examination, in which, among other things, the use and interaction of forces and means involved in conducting the so-called. “ATO” in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, making management decisions when planning and conducting combat operations during the “ATO”, including in August 2014 in the Ilovaisk region.
“Based on the results of this examination, analysis of seized documents, testimonies of victims and witnesses (including participants in the Ilovaisk tragedy), and other evidence received, a decision will be made on the existence of grounds for reporting suspicion to officials of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Operational Headquarters for the Management of the ATO, government officials and the Armed Forces RF, etc.,” noted the Prosecutor General’s Office.
In the criminal proceedings in Ilovaisk, the department clarified, among other things, facts of possible negligent attitude towards the service of military officials during a military operation in the Ilovaisk area of the Donetsk region are being investigated.
“During the pre-trial investigation, more than 900 witnesses were questioned, more than 1700 military documents, including secret ones, were seized, 470 forensic medical examinations were carried out, and a significant amount of other investigative and procedural actions were carried out,” the prosecutor’s office noted.
Let us recall that at the end of August 2014, after large-scale battles, the Ukrainian military was surrounded near Ilovaisk. According to official Ukrainian data, 366 Ukrainian military personnel and law enforcement officers were killed, 429 were wounded, 128 were captured, and 158 are considered missing. Unofficially, former Defense Minister Anatoly Gritsenko put the figure at 3-4 thousand wounded and dead.
