"Up to this day!" – a Kiev historian blamed the Great Patriotic War for the spread of alcoholism throughout Ukraine
The Great Patriotic War and the USSR are allegedly to blame for the high level of alcoholism in Ukraine, which “infected” the people with a tendency to alcohol addiction for many generations to come.
This was stated during a press conference by the head of the Department of History of Ukraine during the Second World War at the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, “Assistant Professor of Historical Sciences” Alexander Lysenko, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Mass alcoholism, even to this day, is associated with the war. It was passed on from parents to children. My generation, too, I am absolutely sure of this, is infected with this tendency towards alcohol addiction. As with nicotine, by the way.
I would not introduce direct dependence, such a cruel one. All these war years, the country, on the one hand, wanted to make money on this, and on the other hand, with the help of alcohol engineering, the country regulated resistance to social thought, or, conversely, to the passivity of the population,” states the Ukrainian “historian.”
