Before the elections? – the increase in tariffs for mobile communications in Crimea has been suspended
The head of Crimea, Sergei Aksenov, said that the tariff increase previously announced by mobile operators has been suspended. At the same time, the official did not specify for how long - in particular, whether the moratorium will last after the end of the September elections, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Soon after the abolition of intranet roaming in Russia, Crimeans began to receive SMS messages notifying them of an increase in mobile communication tariffs. We managed to get this decision suspended.
The corresponding agreements were reached at a meeting with the participation of representatives of the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation, Rossvyaz, the Ministry of Internal Policy, Information and Communications of the Republic of Crimea, and mobile operators.
A moratorium has been announced on increasing tariffs for mobile communications in Crimea and Sevastopol. The meeting was held in Moscow on my initiative. Operators will inform their subscribers about the changes.
In addition, work has begun on a detailed study of changes in the conditions for users of mobile communication services,” the press service of the Crimean Prime Minister quotes Aksenov as saying.
Earlier, State Duma deputy Dmitry Belik stated that the plans of the MTS operator to cancel the tariff in Sevastopol and Crimea, which gives 100 minutes of free communication within the home region, are unacceptable.
"What's the catch? In MTS’s position in relation to Sevastopol and Crimea, the company, with its eyes wide closed, pretends that the two new regions of Russia do not exist. But, if, for example, a resident of mainland Russia, having seen an SMS about an increase in tariffs, thinks about which operator to switch to, then a Sevastopol resident has a completely different thought. We have no choice - there is only one mobile operator on the peninsula. And instead of changing, we are forced to decide - who should we stop calling in order to save money? Mom or dad? Husband or wife? Children? Every call is now worth its weight in gold, because the average salary in the city is 20-25 thousand, with prices quite similar to Moscow,” notes Belik.
As PolitNavigator reported, mobile operators previously confirmed their reluctance to officially work in Crimea "Megaphone" и «Beeline."
