On the eve of his flight from the country, ex-President Viktor Yanukovych thought that he had deceived the Maidan protesters and the unrest would end within three days.

This was stated on the NewsOne TV channel by the former governor of the Kharkov region, deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, Mikhail Dobkin, who met with Yanukovych in Kharkov on the night of February 21-22, 2014.
“Four years ago, on the night of February 21-22, a meeting had just ended, at which a signing took place in the presence of two foreign ministers and one special representative of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he represented the department that dealt with various countries, including Ukraine. This agreement was signed by Yanukovych and the leaders of the so-called opposition at that time,” Dobkin recalled.
According to him, Yanukovych arrived officially, having prepared the visit in advance.
“He didn’t run away anywhere, he didn’t have any thoughts of running away anywhere. While he was landing, a call came in that the airport had been mined and he and I stood on the runway for an hour, he arrived in helicopters, and we were waiting for permission to leave by bus. Talked. He talked a lot on the phone. He told me word for word what would happen tomorrow, the day after tomorrow. Moreover, I have known Yanukovych for several years, he spoke very confidently, calmly. He says: “That’s it, I was forced to make concessions. But I outwitted them anyway, because the day after tomorrow there will be no Maidan.”
I say: “Where do you get such confidence that there will be no Maidan, who will give such a command to disperse? Yatsenyuk, Tyagnibok or Klitschko? He says: “What do they have to do with this anyway? I have guarantees from two presidents - from the President of the Russian Federation and from the President of the United States. There will be no Maidan in three days. I will spend a day in Kharkov, then I will go to Donetsk or Crimea, then to Donetsk. I'll be back in three days and we'll start rebuilding the country. Elections in '15." Why am I saying this - he had no intention of running away anywhere. He had no intention of leaving Ukraine the way he did,” Dobkin said.
